I read the other day on my Oprah App from my Ipad 20 questions to ask before you get married, and I was wondering what people thought of the questions...... Do you think they are relevent to couples today or do they seem outdated now that so many couples are already living together??? I was also wondering if any of you asked your partner any of these questions before you got married? I am excited to read your comments. Here are a few of the 20 questions- you can find all 20 Questions on the Oprah APP under Oprah Show.

Question #1

What percentage of our income are we prepared to spend purchase and maintain our home on a monthly basis?

Question #6

How much time will each of us spend at work, and during what hours? Do we begin work early? Will we prefer to work into the evening?

Question #11

Do we eat meals together? Which ones? Who is responsible for the food shopping? Who prepares the meals? Who cleans up afterwards?

Question # 17

Are we satisfied with the quality and quantity of friends we currently have? Would we like to be more involved socially? Are we overwhelmed socially and need to cut back on such commitments?

If you had to do it all over again, would there be a question you would have liked to ask your partner before you were married? Let me know.... so I can share with couples who are meeting with me.

You can email me heather@the-wedding-officiant.com or I am on Facebook -Heather Ann M. Mack

Cheers, Heather

Wedding Passages...

I think it is always a nice touch to have a prayer or poem read during your ceremony. I have several reccomendations but I am going to focus on one of my favorites today. It is found in the book "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran. I always welcome your comments. Thanks for reading!

"The Almitra spoke again and said, And what of Marriage, master?

And he answered saying:

You were born together, and toegether you shall be forevermore.

You shall be together when the white wings of death scatter your days.

Ay, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.

But let there be spaces in your togetherness, And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.

Love one another, but make not a bond of love:

Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.

Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup.

Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.

Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,

Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.

Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping.

For nly the hand of Life can contain your hearts.

And Stand together yet not too near together:

For the pillars of the temple stand apart,

And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow."

The wedding cottage...

I visited the "Wedding Cottage" today in Beaverton. If you have children in your wedding party I highly reccomend the Wedding Cottage. They had the best selection of flower girl baskets and ring bearer pillows. They also had really cute story books for kids about what it means to be in a wedding party. The cottage is also filled with little goodies for "Girls night in" and mother of the bride tee's. It is a lovely store and is worth the trek over to Beaverton.

We have all attended weddings at hotels in back yards and in places of worship. These are all phenominal places to get married but I've been thinking lately about creative places to get married.

What if you got married in a coffee shop! Can you just imagine- The officiant say's congratulations on your marriage and everyone raises there favorite coffee drink in your honor. I think the insomnia coffee shop in Hillsboro, OR. would be a perfect location for a small wedding. I think the Stratford house on Main St. in Hillsboro would also be a lovely location. Everyone there would raise a cup of tea since it is known for its delicious teas.

Please share with me your creative ideas of where to get married. I can't wait!

Holiday Gift Certificates...
